Current Academy Learner Education Units
The Goal Setting and Healthy Habits unit focusses on setting SMART goals and creating and tracking healthy habits. Students will reflect upon their current achievements and barriers to success to help achieve their goals.
The Community Outreach is designed to promote positivity in the community, including strategies for fundraising and health promotion campaigns. The unit helps students understand fundraising techniques, donations and sponsorship.
The Fitness for Life unit focusses on the skills needed to prescribe fitness programs, explain correct training techniques and fitness testing for clients and athletes as a career.
During the Nutrition for life unit, students will explore the importance of nutrition for overall wellbeing, performance and reflect upon their own eating habits. They will develop skills in recipe creation and eating on a budget.
The Officiating unit is designed to help students develop an understanding of the physical and mental demands and roles of officials in their chosen sport. They will learn the practical skills involved in officiating their chosen sport.
A practical based unit where students develop the necessary skills for sports strapping and explore careers in physiotherapy and exercise science.
The Strong Mind Strong Athlete unit explores mindfulness, mental preparation techniques, the idea of ‘Grit’ and students will gain an insight into Sports Psychology as a career pathway.
The Physics of Sport will allow students to gain an understanding of how physics impacts the technique, movement and performance in sport whilst learning fundamental physics concepts relating to motion and energy.
A unit designed to help students determine a career pathway based on their interests and strengths. Students develop skills in resume writing and interviewing for a job, helping them succeed in gaining employment in their chosen career.
Explores the use of empathy in sport and allows students to gain an insight into discrimination, performance enhancing drugs, and corruption in sport. Students will also understand the expectations of professional athlete behaviours in the public eye.
The Statistics of Sport is designed to help students develop their statistics knowledge and skills. They will develop an understanding of how statistics can be used in the sports industry to inform and be applied within sporting organisations to improve their organisations chances of success.
Introduction to the fundamental concepts of sports coaching and leadership. Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical coaching sessions, students will develop essential coaching skills and leadership qualities. This unit explores identifying player strengths and weaknesses, player performance plans, conflict resolution, motivation and team building, planning an organising training sessions and coaching techniques and styles.
A preparation for Year 11 Physical Education topic that focusses on areas identified that students require the most prior knowledge before heading into Year 11. This unit takes a sports scientific inquiry approach to learning concepts relating to anatomy and physiology, as well as exploring the musculoskeletal, respiratory and cardiovascular systems.
Designed to help students improve their financial literacy, create budgets and healthy spending habits. Students will gain an understanding of savings, interest, taxes, investment classes, assets, liabilities and debt. They will understand the process of due diligence on purchases and the power of financial knowledge as a professional and professional athlete.
A Maths and Information Technology focussed unit that utilises skills and knowledge through technology to improve athlete and team performances. This unit empowers students to use data and video analysis based approach to improve success in sport and explores careers in the industry. Students develop skills and utilise technologies such as ‘Hudl’, annotation, excel and pivot charts.
